YouTube is making it easier for brands to be the only ones showing ads on more types of stuff, like:
- Entire channels made by creators.
- Special sets of videos.
- Playlists.
- Specific videos.
What’s a Content Takeover? It’s when YouTube lets brands have complete control over certain things, so only their ads show up for a while. This means brands can wrap up content, like whole channels or particular videos, so when people watch them, they only see ads from that brand, giving them all the attention.
Taking advantage of what’s popular. When there are big events, like the Super Bowl, where lots of people are interested in certain things, brands can use Content Takeovers to reach more people. For example, if Usher is performing at the Super Bowl and lots of people are interested in his music, brands can buy a Content Takeover of Usher’s YouTube channel. This way, anyone watching Usher’s videos during the Super Bowl will only see ads from that brand.
Why does this matter? While Content Takeovers can help brands reach more people and make sure their ads get noticed, they might have to spend a lot of money to do it.
What YouTube says. A YouTube spokesperson said:
“YouTube is making this feature bigger with more options for brands – a special chance for them to get lots of attention on relevant creator channels, custom lineups, and/or playlists.” “This even includes taking over when a creator releases a big new video, like on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights YouTube Channel – giving a brand all the attention on their channel when they put out their weekly videos.
