As Texas braces for frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chill conditions, a multitude of schools and educational institutions have announced closures for Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. The decision comes in response to concerns about the well-being and safety of students, staff, and the community.
Monday School Closures in Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Before we delve into Tuesday’s closures, it’s important to note that schools across the region are closed on Monday, January 15th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This includes the postponement of Prairie View A&M University’s Basketball Double-Header originally scheduled for Monday.
Tuesday School Closures Across Texas
Due to the extreme weather forecast, several school districts and educational institutions have already announced closures for Tuesday, January 16th. Here’s an updated list:
- Angleton ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Boling ISD will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Brazosport College classes and operations, including the Bill & Julia May Children’s Center, will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Centerville ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Cleveland ISD will close all campuses and facilities. The warming centers at Cleveland Middle School and Santa Fe Middle School will be extending their hours of operation until 5PM on Tuesday. All enrolled Cleveland ISD students and their families are welcome.
- Conroe ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Dayton ISD classes and activities have been canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
- Galena Park ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Goodrich ISD will closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Katy ISD will closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Montgomery ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- New Caney ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- New Waverly ISD will be closed, Tuesday, January 16.
- Pro-Vision Academy will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Tarkington ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Texas A&M University cancels classes for Tuesday, January 16.
- Sealy ISD will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Smart Scholars Academy in Rosharon, TX will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Southwest Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Spring ISD will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Tomball ISD will be closed Tuesday, January 16.
- Waller ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Royal ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Channelview ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Wharton County Junior College will be closed on January 16. No scheduled classes or extracurricular activities will be held. All campuses will be closed. The Wharton County Junior College Board of Trustees meeting has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
- Pasadena ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Crosby ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Needville ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Hempstead ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Clear Creek ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Alvin ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Pearland ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.
- Spring Branch ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16.

Delayed School Openings
In addition to closures, some districts have opted for delayed school openings:
- Corrigan-Camden ISD (10 a.m. start)
- Leggett ISD (10 a.m. start with buses running two hours late)
